I remember after I’d made the first couple of cuts [on the Idol show before top 36] my mother said to me, You know, you ever think about softening up your image a little bit? You know, the nail-polish, the crazy hair, the eyeliner, I mean, I don’t know if that’s going to work”. I said to her, “You know Mom, the thing is about this show is that if I can’t go on it and be myself, and express myself the way I always do in everyday life then I’m not really being Adam. And this is the whole thing, I wanted to get the opportunity to be me.
